                  My Story

                                                Hi, and Welcome!

I've spent years neck deep learning, experimenting, and reflecting on what it means to live well—with integrity, honesty, curiosity, and, most importantly, fun.

My story starts a bit uniquely.

                                       Where it started

I spent a month in the NICU as a premature babe, mostly to recover from a brain hemorrhage. I don't yet know how to put that experience that I don't remember into words.

But what I do know is....

That beginning eventually became part of a much bigger curiosity for me:

How do our experiences shape our bodies, our minds, and the way we move through the world?

                           Food wasn’t the whole story

                                The turning point

Early life trauma shaped my nervous system—I always scanned the room, the faces, the voices, for signs of safety. Years of doing this created a permanent anxious outlook on life. This led to isolating myself for days, which tampered with my mental and physical health.

In my mid-30s, emotional stress caused my body to exhibit stroke-like symptoms. 6 months after the initial emergency room visit, I was told I have multiple sclerosis. Of course, the answer was drugs. I knew deep down that other “prescriptions” existed. This diagnosis and lack of answers from conventional medicine was the catalyst for my journey into healing—with nutrition, somatics (including mindfulness, meditation, yoga, breathwork), thoughts, emotions, and an everlasting quest to find out truth.

Over the years, I have also come to terms with being neurodivergent.

Althought not officially diagnosed, I seem to express traits of autism and hyperlexia.

As you will see when you puruse the rest of the website, I explore neurodiversity as it being the variety of human minds, independent of whether or not you are diagnosed.

                 Curiosity became education

As a young adult, I had grown tired of feeling low, and felt determined to find answers.

In 2015, my certificate in Horticultural Therapy opened my exploration of healing through gardening.

After a few years of working with different neurodivergent populations in farming, gardening, and learning to be self-sufficient, I continued on my way towards my own self healing.

I immersed myself in various things, trying to change how I feel:

Meditation, books, travel, yoga, exercise, sunlight, nature, food...

Food! That’s interesting... What I eat every day, many times a day, must have something to do with how I feel, right?

In 2021, I took an online certificate course called Nutrition and Healthy Living through Cornell University. The science, the knowledge, the hopes that I gained, lightened my heart and ignited my soul.

I wanted more.

I believed nutrition wasn’t the full answer, as humans are much more complex than that.

So I immersed myself in thoughtwork and joined a life coaching program that taught me all about how our emotions and actions stem from our thoughts, and how most of our thoughts (and beliefs!) are not true and did not come from us.

I signed up for a somatic course, led by a very talented and passionate somatic life coach. I learned so many somatic tools—from breathwork, to grounding, to orienting, to body scanning. These tools helped me with emotion regulation and understanding my nervous system.

                                     Where I am now

My thirst for knowledge and the desire to be fully equipped with tools for caring for my health inspired me to pursue a Masters in Nutrition and Functional Medicine from the University of Western States.

I created The Science of Becoming to share what I've mastered, and what I am still learning, and to give you practical ideas, questions, and tools you can explore for yourself.

I am excited for you to acquire a wealth of knowledge and practices to keep in your life toolbelt for your healing journey.

Let’s go!
